Bobcean Funeral Home Scholarship

For three generations, the Bobcean Family has served in the funeral profession. Commencing around 1910, Edward H. Bobcean started an undertaker establishment in Detroit in the area of Michigan Ave. and 20th Street. Arthur, his son, joined the business in 1934. In 1939, Arthur and his wife, Ethel, moved to Flat Rock and started their own funeral home, which remains today. Sons Lee and James joined their parents in the 1970s. In 1988, they purchased the Baker Funeral Home in Carleton, Michigan, which was changed to the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Inc. Carleton Chapel. This allowed them to increase their service area to cover Southern Wayne County and Northern Monroe County.

On September 13, 2019, Robert J. Gilbert purchased the funeral homes from the Bobcean family. It has been renamed Bobcean Funeral Home to continue to honor the family that has served this community for so long. Since they are family owned and operated, they believe in the family values that they were taught…the values of honesty, integrity, and the value of personalized service to the families in our community, which is why this scholarship and recognizing an Airport High School graduate is so important to them. It is the privilege of the Airport Community Schools Foundation to offer this scholarship to Airport Community High School students.
