THE WINGMAN Student Assistance Grant Fund

Purpose:
To provide a safe and supportive way for students to request financial help for educational or extracurricular activities, ensuring no student is left behind.

Key Features:

  • Open scholarship fund available throughout the school year.
  • Covers a wide range of student needs, not limited to academics.
  • Annual report issued to show how funds were used to support students.

To apply, students or families should reach out to their school principal, office staff, counselor or teacher.


2024-2025 Grants

During the 2024-2025 school year, four teacher grants were awarded by the Foundation:


Jenna Andrews ($500), Wagar Middle School, grade 5. The grant expands students’ flexible seating options to include floor cushions and wobble stools to improve student engagement. Mrs. Andrews’ class was recognized on the air by CNN10, a daily news program designed for elementary schools.


Molly Flitt and McKenzie Swiontoniowski ($500), Sterling Elementary School, grade 1, enjoyed using their science viewers and exploration packs to boost science engagement by providing students with a hands on opportunity to learn about animal groups.


Renee Krolczyk-Dare ($1,000), Ritter Elementary School, grade 5. Grant funds were used to purchase a supplemental business curriculum called “Whiz Biz” to teach fundamentals of business, finance and leadership.


Rebecca Scharf ($500), Airport High School, PILOT program. The grant allows students to participate in group activities such as field trips, bowling and movies as well as purchase materials for classroom activities for the PILOT (Peers Investing in the Lives of Other Teens) program.


2023-2024 Grants

During the 2023-2024 school year, four teacher grants were awarded by the Foundation:

Jordan Dostert ($1,000), Airport High School, grades 9-12. Grant funds were used to purchase a mounted pulldown set of historical maps to support World History
classes.

Lisa Ferrante ($150), Airport High School, grades 9-12. A set of trundle wheels assist physics and math students in measuring long distances.

Lori Mossburg ($350), Wagar Middle School, grade 8. Grant funds provided 250 NASA-certified solar eclipse glasses to view the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.

Meagan Rupert ($500), Wagar Middle School, grades 5-8. The class hosted “Battle of the Books,” an event that promotes students exploring books in a variety of formats.


2022-2023 Grants

During the 2022-2023 school year, four ACSF teacher grants were selected by Airport Administration:


Financial Advisor Ron EvansEmily Adams ($500), Wagar Middle School, grade 8, History / Constitution emphasis. “As future voting citizens, this group [of students] understands how important knowledge is for our future. … I also want to ensure our students’ social studies content includes economics,” said Mrs. Adams, who invited Financial Advisor Ron Evans of Raymond James Financial to speak with 8th-grade students about how to be successful in Finance.

Teacher grant Mrs. Jacobs Applied MathematicsShari Jacobs ($1,000), Wagar Middle School, grade 7, “Applied Mathematics” based on learning “Real Life Skills.” Students in Mrs. Jacob’s Applied Mathematics course got a head start through a new classroom game, “Real-World Math: Unexpected Events.” This game applies math concepts to everyday life by asking players to track expenses like bills, groceries, leisure and unexpected life events.

Traci Hopper ($1,000), Airport High School, grades 11-12. The grant supports PILOT (Peers Investing in the Lives of Other Teens) program by funding a field trip to a Mud Hens game for general and special education students.

Kristina Roecker ($500), Wagar Middle School, grade 6. Grant funds were used to improve classroom library to provide more title options for students, especially struggling readers.
